Filling
in the Search Fields
|
You
can use either capitals or lower case letters to enter
the necessary information.
- To find the number
of a private individual: You must know their surname.
If the surname is very common it helps to narrow
down the search if you can also provide the correct name
or
first initial. You will need to select “Residential”
fromType
of listing and “Voice” from Line Type
- To find a business
number: You must know at least some of the business name.
- If you are uncertain
of details enter the first 4 letter
e.g. enter
Scho in the surname field
for 'Scholastique' or
- If you are unable
to find the person or business you are looking for, we
suggest you:
1. check all spellings
2. try leaving out or shortening some of the words
and appending a wildcard '*'
3. consider whether the party you are looking for is listed
under a different name or likely to be ex-directory

Avoiding
Mistakes |
Surname
|
If you
are looking for a person's number then you must enter
their surname in the Surname field.
|
If you are looking for a business you must enter the name
of the business, including any initials.
|
If you
are unsure of the business name then just enter the
words you knowand select keyword search.
|
The word "and" is
always ignored. The system also does not recognise a hyphen.
|
You can
type th efirst four letter if you are unsure about a particular
spelling
|
Names with
numbers (e.g. business names such as 3
B’s Boutique) should
be entered with a space after each number (e.g. 3
B s Boutique)
|
Name
|
Name should only be entered when finding a
person. If a business name contains initials, then these
are considered to be part of the Business Name.
|
We recommend leaving the Name enquiry field
blank at first and only entering them if a large amount of
matching information is displayed.
|
Also, when entering names remember that some
people may be generally known by a familiar name but may appear
under their formal name, e.g. Tony may appear under Anthony
|
Line
Type
|
You will need to select the type of line you
are looking for, that is either Voice, Fax or Telex
|
Type of listing
|
If you searching for a residential customer,
you will need to select residential from the type of listing
and same for Businesses and Government. There are cases whereby
an individual name is under Business Category, therefore it
is advisable to select All in the type of listing.

Problems with finding a number
|
Why can't I find the number when I'm sure the
name is correct?
|
The person or business you are looking
for may well be ex-directory (Unlisted). In order to protect
the privacy of customers who have elected to be ex-directory
we will not display any of their details.
|
Why can't I find a business I know
exists?
|
Business
names may be listed in a number of ways. For example, if
you were unable to find Jones,
Smith & Brown Ltd it may be because they wish to be listed
as JSB Limited, or perhaps J.S.B. Limited. Another possibility
is that the business trades under a different name from that
listed in the Phone Book.
